Horsey Tips with HorsePlay

Here at HorsePlay, we know that sometimes it is the simple things that count and often they are so simple that we wonder why we haven't thought of them ourselves.

Do you have any quirky, unusual or just plain obvious horsey tips that you would like to share with us? Maybe some of you have managed to save a few bob with your inside information (something which we think everybody needs right now) or maybe you have the know-how of keeping your white horse sparkling and grass stain free, without needing an expensive trip to the salon!

We would love you to share your secrets with us. You can email them in to us or post your tips on our Facebook page and we will add them to our list!

Here are a few of our own;

1. Soaking your hay and haynet is a great way to hydrate a horse who won't drink away from home. Just don't soak it for too long or a lot of the nutrients will be leached out.

2. Hibiscrub is great for getting grass stains off a (usually) white horse.

3. Baby wipes are extremely versatile, use them on your horse's face or for spot cleaning your tack at a show.

4. In cold weather, a tennis ball or small football in a water trough can help to keep it from freezing entirely.

5. Pledge can be used as a cheap detangler for your horses hair- make sure that you do not spray it near their skin, and only use it on the hair as it can strip your horse of natural oils.

6. If you feed you horse beet pulp, add some the excess water from it to your horses water bucket- a great way to encourage a horse who won't drink away from home!

7. Spraying some show sheen on the tail and the joints of the legs when grooming can help to prevent mud staining on your horse.

8. Feeding your horse a few polo mints before your dressage test is a great way to give your horse's mouth a nice frothy appearance.

9. Plan each of your rides so that you have a goal to achieve in your schooling sessions.

10. If you have a shoe in fairly good condition after a farrier visit, keep it with your show gear. It can be used in an emergency at a show!

If you have a tip that you would like to share, please post it directly on our Facebook page or you can email them to us.
