Pure and simple feeding - it's making a real difference to horse health
When it comes to advances in equine nutrition, few companies are making such a fundamental difference to horse health as The Pure Feed Company. By going back to basics and formulating 'feed your horse evolved to eat',
The Pure Feed Company has made a major leap forward in equine nutrition.
In formulating its range of fibre based feeds, The Pure Feed Company has put the nutritional needs of the horse and its specialised digestive system at its heart. The digestive system of the horse is designed to be sustained by a near constant supply of fibre and the high starch and sugar diets commonly fed today can severely hamper a horse's health and performance.
Scientific research suggests that 90% of racehorses will have gastric ulcers at some point of their racing careers, and 80% of sport horses will experience these lesions too. Laminitis and obesity are also reaching epidemic proportions, with the vast proportion of such disorders being preventable through sound nutritional management.
All feeds in the Pure Feed range are based on the principle of high fibre and ultra low starch and sugar and thereby supply calm energy to the horse, while also helping to prevent a multitude of problems such as gastric ulcers, azoturia and excitability. Pure Feeds include Profeed pre-biotic and brewers yeast for improved digestion, are free from molasses and are fully balanced with optimal levels of vitamins and minerals.
As well as increasing mastication time and minimising the risk of gastric ulcers through saliva production, a high fibre intake also helps to slow digestive transit. The fibre acts like a sponge to retain essential water and electrolytes throughout the gastrointestinal tract, whilst creating a surface which allows the digestive juices to act more efficiently on the other food which may be present. All this results in a healthier, fitter horse and a more cost effective feeding regime.
Robert Fowler, co-founder of The Pure Feed Company explains "Our feeds allow owners to feed their horses as they have evolved to eat, while at the same time giving the horse everything needed to enable them to perform to the best of their ability. We don't confuse owners with scores of different products and bewildering marketing messages, but we work to make feeding simple, cost effective and 100% designed for the health of your horse."
Feeds from The Pure Feed Company range sustain horses and ponies from the reliable riding club partner right through to the top competition horse and everything in between, and are chosen by many leading riders including Laura Collett, Alex Hua Tian, Heather Moffett, Peter Storr and Lucinda McAlpine.
The proof is in the eating...At just 21 years old, Laura Collett has an incredibly exciting future ahead of her in the sport of eventing. Having already won a total of seven championship medals at pony, junior and young rider level, Laura has recently been called up to make her senior debut at the 2011 European Eventing Championships. Laura feeds all the horses in her yard from the Pure Feed range, primarily choosing Pure Condition, Pure Working and Pure Racing due to the high energy requirements of her team of event horses. Laura comments that "eventing places an enormous amount of stress on our horses and it is our duty as riders to ensure that we provide them with the nutritional resources to stay in peak health and condition. Feeding the Pure Feed range gives me the confidence to know that all my horses' nutritional needs are taken care of and that I am feeding them in a way that they need to be fed to stay at the top of their game. The results speak for themselves."
Laura Grant, a Pure Feed customer "My horse got diagnosed with PSSM last year. I struggled for quite a while balancing everything that surrounds her condition alongside eventing her. I had tried lots of different feed and nothing seemed to work, she always got too lean and if I fed her more she would tie up. I have been feeding her Pure Easy for a few months and I am so happy to say that she looks amazing and has more than enough energy to event and has not showed any muscle stiffness or tied up. So this is a quick note to say thankyou and also to recommend your feed to owners of horses that suffer from PSSM."
Clare Reynolds, a Pure Feed customer and her horse Starlight Sylvester triumphed at the BHS Trec Championships of Great Britain last year at Bryn Sion, Afonwen, Wales. First in the Level 3 Individual, they also received the award for Best Condition in the opinion of the vets. Clare Said "I started to feed Pure Working earlier in the year and have seen a vast improvement in my horse's performance and condition. Thank you Pure Feeds!"
Becky King, a Pure Feed customer "I started to feed my horse K2 on Pure condition to start with then Pure Working and was impressed from the start...he put on weight incredibly quickly and I had to cut down the amounts pretty quickly!! He is now fed just a small amount of Working and the Pure Balance to make sure he is getting everything he needs but I'm happy that in the winter I can up the feed and easily keep weight on him where I've struggled before. He also seems to have put on condition along his top line and looks a lot more 'uphill' than he did. The other improvement is his feet...he is barefoot and you can see the new growth on his feet which coincides with around the time I changed onto your feeds. I also feed Pure to my other 2 horses and they are doing equally well! Thank you so much for providing a feed that suits the horse as a horse should be... I highly recommend your products to anyone!"
