I.H.W.T. 2010 Mobile Phone Recycle Appeal
The Irish Horse Welfare Trust (IHWT) in partnership with Kavanagh Environmental has launched a mobile phone appeal, urging people to donate unwanted, used or faulty mobile phones to support the charity's work with horses and ponies across the country
For every phone donated, a minimum of €3 will go to IHWT's work in Rescuing, Rehabilitation and Re-Homing of horses and ponies. To date we collected over 4,250 phones generating over €12,750 for the I.H.W.T.
A mobile phone will take 1,000 years to decompose in a landfill site. Recycling mobile phones will help to reduce pollution and conserve scarce resources. Once delivered to Kavanagh Environmental, a licensed WEEE waste facility, phones will be tested and assessed by trained technicians and graded for reuse, repair, refurbishment or recycling.
"This is a great initiative that combines two good causes in one," says Sharon Newsome, one of the founders of IHWT. "Disposing of old mobile phones is a delicate matter as they can be very polluting. With this initiative, people can now dispose of their old phones, while being environmentally conscious and supporting our hard and constant work with horses and ponies across Ireland."
Those willing to get involved, simply need to place their unwanted phone or phones in the bag provided and put it in the post for FREE.
